SCMRS

The SUNSHINE COAST MARINE RESCUE SOCIETY (SCMRS) is the fundraising arm of Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 12.

The Sunshine Coast Marine Rescue Society is a non-profit organization established in accordance with the Societies Act of British Columbia whose purpose is the financial support of RCMSAR Station 12, Halfmoon Bay. SCMRS exists to enable RCMSAR, Station 12 realize its objective of “Saving Lives on the Water”. Activities of the Society include fundraising, donor management and recognition, asset management (funds), risk management (insurance) and disbursement of funds and payment of expenses.

We are actively seeking support crew to sit on our board of Directors at the Sunshine Coast Marine Rescue Society. These are all the people behind the scenes who keep our vessels funded and our equipment up to date. They apply for grants, run the Sunshine Coast Marine Rescue Society as well as manage finances and organize fundraising.

If you have any special skills such as business, accounting, event planning, community relations, experience in grant writing and a fun attitude and want to volunteer with like minded people – then this is for you!! Meetings are once a month and then some behind the scenes planning during special events and grant season! We’d love to hear from you!

RCMSAR Station 12  is on call and ready to respond to marine emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and in all types of weather and sea conditions.  Our search and rescue operations, crewed by highly trained professionals, serve an area of almost 600 square kilometres within an area from McNaughton Point to Halibut Bank and across the Salish Sea and along BC’s Middle Sunshine Coast.  To reduce the risk of boating incident’s and drownings, we also promote public awareness of water safety through school outreach activities, pleasure craft safety checks, loans of PFDs for kids and adults and our work in community events.  All of our members are unpaid volunteers, fully engaged in supporting our communities and dedicated to saving lives on the water.

Donations play a vital role in sustaining local marine search and rescue services that are so important to coastal communities such as ours.  Please consider supporting RCMSAR Station 12  through a donation to the SUNSHINE COAST MARINE RESCUE SOCIETY,  a charitable organization registered with the Canada Revenue Agency.
